I’d Buy That For a Dollar! #140304
If you’re looking for any last minute birthday gift ideas.
This ship is the USS Wisconsin. It’s an Iowa-class battleship launched on December 7th, 1943 (the second anniversary of the Pearl Harbor raid). She served in the Pacific Theater of World War II shelling Japanese fortifications and screening U.S. aircraft carriers as they conducted air raids against enemy positions. During the Korean War, she shelled North Korean targets, after which she was decommissioned. She was reactivated in August of 1986, modernised and participated in Operation Desert Storm in January and February of 1991. She was finally decommissioned again in September of 1991, having earned a total of six battle stars for service in World War II and Korea, as well as a Navy Unit Commendation for service during the Gulf War. The Wisconsin currently functions as a permanent museum ship at The National Maritime Center in Norfolk, Virginia.
